One Last Forbidden Kiss

Church bells were heard nearby As minarets tall, made prayer calls When they stood on war torn bridge Parting with one last forbidden kiss. Sirens of war were loud too, But bombs much louder, blasted inferno. Bridge collapsed, bodies shattered, No voice dared to claim the silence. I can visualize the fierceness of this shuddering war scenario reverberating....the sound of sirens ! The last line sums up the intensity of the suffocating silence that overcast the whole surrounding.... the 'calm after the storm' ! A highly evocative write sparking emotions of dread and horror !

I read about those situations at war...I can't imagine what people had to go through...especially lovers who had to part knowing they may never see each other again...A touching write

I could see this happening, perhaps in Paris, Vijay, though I'm not sure about the bridge reference. Probably during World War II when the destruction of families and property were so high. Very moving! Congratulations on your win, Carolyn

Love your poem, I have never been in your shoes. I do know hundreds of Chrisritans are being killed daily. Nobody bats one lacquered eyelash. Nobody. Nor do they count the thousands Of dead baby bodies that Die,outdo all wars. We live in a murderous age with our eyes shut tight. Shame on us all. War rages on at this moment. Wake up people. War against the most innocent we are at war and hum folk tunes? Panagiota

All wars are horrific and all are affected, whether or civilians, and one can only pray, that mankind come to realize that obliteration of one, brings about obliteration of all and their downfall. One last forbidden kiss one can steal before the inferno! Such an excellent write. Hugs, Jennifer. Hugs, Jennifer.
