A touching cute poem, there are still those who survive on smidgen or two aren't there? I guess thats where the phrase "Starving artist" comes from. I met a girl who majored in violin and spent years running a thrift shop. Maybe surviving on smidgens, hope the best for her. I liked your poem, I'm sorry if I didn't interpret it well at 1st.

So pleased that you've commented again, Marikate... And as for interpreting poems: The meaning belongs to the interpreter! Go for it... always! ~ Gershon

Hi Gershon. I used to hear the word "smidgen" from my mother. When she was talking about food or make up for example, "I'll just use a smidgen of blush" she would say. I love that word and the way it sounds. Do you suppose it originated in Ireland? " I'll take just a smidgen of the strawberry, rhubarb, raspberry pie" :)

Ah, so true. Wise words, my friend...I feed the squirrels from my front porch.
