From the anthology, Complaining to the Clock, a work in progress.
Had an opportunity to visit Redding, California in 2019. Loved the visit, but not so much while staying at the iconic Thunderbird Lodge in downtown Redding, two blocks from the railroad depot, and right next to Highway 273 south, a main thoroughfare for big lumber trucks, not to mention all the other truck-like vehicles driving by, creating a maelstrom of noise. The noise lasted all day long and actually shook the room I was staying in. An amazing experience. This poem is based on that experience.
