Of mice men a parallax view

Why’d you dig that hole George,
are there rabbits down there?
Too many Lennie
like me they’re in despair
Don’t be afraid to look now
I’ll stand right behind
Ok I will!
George took out his gun all primed

If I seem distant
it’s not because I’m far
I’ve always been here
your binary star
Two for one was always
our dream spot in space
As George felt plasma
splat across his face

For the first time ever
Lennie’s mind came alight
Brains blew outward
behold what a sight
Symbiosis ends
when one half explodes
Locked in syndrome gone
no need to reload

Down the rabbit hole
lies that smoking gun
It may solve a dilemma
but can never be undone
Ever wonder why
fools stare blank upon skies
They just don’t see them
until they possess no eyes

What a quote Anaya, love it! A person could easily bounce a poem off it, I will keep in mind when writing for the future! Cheers David

Dear david what a deep and profound write this is, i read it twice and felt it strongly what youv conveyed here and this specific line really stood out for me “ I’ve always been here your binary star” wow! That is brilliant! And so touching! And the ending is so moving, somethings can never be undone, and the wrongs are easier but never the right way to go. It really made me pause and think. I see from your comments it is inspired by a book, but i havent read it , however your poem does give me an idea. Its a meaningful and emotive take! Pleasure reading you today. Sending you light always

It’s so true Ink, in the novel (Of mice and men) the main characters George and Lennie are like binary stars, one bright and small the other big and dim, both are interlocked by human gravity, its a great read, but as you can tell from my poem it ends with an inevitable tragedy, just like sometimes binary stars end with a class 1A supernova, thank you so much for kind comments and light, cheers David! Hope that idea works out for you, good luck!

Is that what happens when one side of a brain takes control of the other? Left or right. who holds the gun? Left or right. who's the smartest one? Maybe I'm totally off base in my thinking, but that depends on which side of my brain is doing the thinking. Question to ponder~ Will George be better without Lennie, or will he have enough cells left to realize he just killed half of his mental faculties? Before I go deeper into that hole, I'll stop before I open the vile that says, 'drink me.'

I've written a couple of poems about falling down the rabbit hole and felt like I had tumbled into it. I don't like rodents, but sometimes there's less threat from catching a plaque from them then catching a dagger in the back. Deb has a blog posted about being grateful for things in PS. A little positivity is welcomed here and should be embraced.

I think George and Lennie were both victims of the American dream in Steinbeck’s book, and it was more a mercy killing than anything else, this one is perhaps my parallax view of how the tragedy unfolded, of course I’m using binary star and brain matter metaphor, hey rumour has it the original draft was eaten by Steinbecks dog, and he spent months rewriting the novel!Perhaps another rabbit hole lol! Thanks Lin, cheers David

My mind was at a loss for words the other day. I couldn't put something together for another senseless shooting. It's all so sad. The sound of sirens resonates, symbiosis ends! Great story telling, glad I read this one this morning and who could forget the classic of all time.

Heya Anaya, yes a John Steinbeck classic, I read it again on holiday recently, and decided to write this one yesterday as a tribute to the book, I’m not sure if this particular shooting was senseless, Lennie was going to suffer much more if George hadn’t taken him out, but I agree with your view the carnage guns bring to US streets, cheers David
