Of Infinity

Beyond the horizon as far as eye can see And further still until all fades from view, Even impatient rocking of the aqueous sea Or tiny twinkling stars of a silverish hue. I’ve heard soft whispers of true nothingness In distant places unimaginably dark and bleak In realms of fantasy, and so, I must confess, Infinity is even beyond that of which I speak. Somewhere out there where creation begins Where all that exists grew from tiny sparks, And, perhaps, beyond where our creation ends The truth of everything unknown embarks. Arriving there still no far horizon is sighted Where darkness reigns, nothing is lighted.

Thanks to my vacation, I think. I have written some fairly decent poems since my return, I think. It is so hard to evaluate your own poetry, or at least it is for me.

A very well written sonnet, Miiton. As with the villanelle you are good with the sonnet form. The subject matter of this one is one I enjoy reading serious books and watching documentaries about. / Maurice

I love the way you split your sonnet in half, uniquely done. I agree with your poem, who knows what great mystery lies beyond the dark, perhaps undiscovered stars of value, thank you for sharing your pen Milton, stay brave, stay smilin' :)

Thank you so much, Vie. I have always tended to think of a sonnet in two distinct portions, divided 8-6 with the last two lines rhyming. I don't know where I came up with that way of thinking, but it has worked for me. I surely do appreciate hearing from you.

Loved it! Just think how much better off our civilization would be, even our view of death, if we were more inquisitive than fearful of darkness. Love to know a thing or two abut your inspiration for this one. Nicely done.

Thank you, Jeannie. Oh my, my mind is always swirling around this and similar ideas and concepts. In this case, the contest theme triggered my thoughts. You are certainly right in your thinking. As we become more inquisitive about darkness, we tend to shed some of our fears of it, or at least I think so.

Even impatient rocking of the sea...love that line. What a pensive poem makes you wonder. Beautifully penned.
