Odonata Out of Water

Three hundred million year ago in smelly swamp and deep below a monster insect there evolved. Then up on to dry land it crawled, escaping muddy origin to breathe air thick with oxygen. Inhaling potent gas it grew to flying creature that was new. To thirty inch its wings expand. Airborne predator in command. Forward, reverse, hover and dive; it catches prey to eat alive. In modern times this species small so is no threat to us at all. But now man makes the climate warm this powerful insect will return. Then when we look up to the sky we see the monster dragonfly.

Hi Jeanne. Many thanks for comment. I also love these dragonflies. I spend hours watching them perform in the summer sun. I'm impressed with them for the longest ever existence of a species on Earth. Best wishes, Tony.
