Ode To the Shadows
Later the candlelight
played with his features
lounging in front of the
on going fire
Where were we going when
we got to this place
filled with bright hope
and a hint of desire
Someone or something has
rattled the rainbow
of Colors that danced in from
sunsets' last glow
open the window and let
in the culprit
hopefully someone or something we know
Children of kittens we raised
in the pantry
late in that era of anything goes
climb through the opening
made by our whimsy
play with the tassels and
tickle our toes
Tell us a story of
childhood suspended
fill up the room with a
misty recall
Clouds of contentment
fluff up the pillows
settle on memories
saved for the Fall
Saved for the ones
who lean in from the shadows
glad that we've brought
them out of the past
Saved for the stories
told in the firelight
Whispered in moments
of love that will last.
