October
leaves curl at their edges
draped palms of orange, red or gold
to drift downward, feather light
to the cacophony of streets below
in a flow of seasonal change
leaves meditative
a fiery corrosion
their peaceful indifference
to the beating feet that dance them
October giddy
children with puppy dog enthusiasm
choose costumes
fresh faces float on playful imagination
like bemused grins on pumpkins
innocence wraps itself in trick or treat fantasy
for youngin's ignoring autumn's chilling air
scavenging thief of summer
October's tangible world
its energy of clamorous color
its frost-silver bars that cushion mornings
in the slow undertow
to November
