Obsession

What is there about you
that I cannot resist?
This awful yearning
that eats away my innards.

It kills
It pains.

Times come when I daydream:
Is it like a chrysalis,
that will one day
change into a beautiful thing?

I delude myself.
It will come to nothing.
No, not nothing,
but a pain of loneliness.

I am like a barnacle
so tightly bound to your crust.
Why can't I rid myself
of so many delusions?
Why not admit
you'll never be mine?
Still I shall remain yearning
for the twinkling of your eyes,
for the warmth of your cheek,
for the sweetness of your kiss.
Alas all delusions.

A sad poem, yet beautiful too Victor. It’s hard to love someone who is out of reach, it’s alike the unreachable star, a star that shines forever in one’s heart… Beryl

Oh the delusional love! Alas! You've so breathtakingly described the yearning and evocative essence of a love that is bound by loneliness and nothing else ... The ache is so palpable in each line, dear Victor! And I really like that line " I am like a barnacle so tightly bound to your crust." That's very moving.. pleasure reading this. Sending you light and best wishes always ~

Victor, your amazing poem brings to mind the song called, "Love Hurts." I enjoyed your beautiful poem, and it's portrayal of hopeless love. :)

A melancholic poem about the longing for somebody you cannot have. Excellent use of imagery. You put into words the anguish nicely.

You describe the angst so well. Ah we have all felt this way if we’ve lived long enough! Great job writing!

The hope at least keeps us hoping -- that is important. I never tell myself never...just, probably not. More like, slim chance you silly romantic fool. What the heck! As that great old song says "I can dream, can't I...."

When it's one sided it's so hard to let go and all we have are daydreams of what could have been. Tom

- It's healthy for the brain to daydream, Victor :) - A lovely poem, enjoy reading :) - Have a great summer day - Here we are still waiting for summer ... only 14 degrees ... I think summer has forgotten us this year too ... 12 - 14 degrees all year round :) - hugs
