Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nothing gold can stay It's simply had away People want what's yours Catch you unawares Hide your prized possession Or it'll be someone else's obsession That's what it's like, living on the rough streets Council housing, hardly enough to eat Nothing good or gold is mine Treasure rubbish by design Make sure nothing is observed It'll be taken by those with the nerve Look confident as you walk about Careful not to look like you have 'owt Silver, gold, leather, money, or designer name Just don't bother, someone else will claim If everything you have is unknown There's a chance you'll be left alone It's not worth having gold you see Protecting it brings misery Inspired By Robert Frost’S Nothing Gold Can Stay Poetry Contest 21st February 2023 Sponsored by: JCB Brul

Thank you. It's funny how this one is viewed as it's very much just an account of the day to day in the area I grew up.

A dark, but realistic, picture of man's dark underbelly Dilly. Strong images of impact. Best wishes for the contest. Blessings.

Thank you, I was actually just describing what it was like growing up haha! I don't live round there any more. I'm not sure if it's worse now or I'm more genteel :)
