Not Quite Forgotten Habits

It used to be that most of us Chatted over the fence with our neighbour for Free Or even climbed over for a cup of tea. Now most chat online or text each other for a fee. That does not include a cup of tea. A letter in the post, Was a pleasure for most, Now if we get one it will be from a ghost, Or a bill that will stop us from eating our toast. It used to be that credit was hard to get, And being debt free was a realistic target, Now credit is hard not to get, And being debt free is something to forget. We didn't need to worry about what what was in our food, As it was mainly grown in our own neighbourhood, Now what was just yummy food, Is now classed as super food, that comes from another neighbourhood, And when we can afford this food, We find some does not cut the mustard in our neighbourhood. Through it all we could rely on some spontaneity, And even a little gaiety, Now there is just monotony, Except for the few of us who still have the habit of being quite friendly, In a world that does not always treat us kindly.

My cynic, my comedian, my entire self did entirely enjoy every bit of truth as delivered via your write. Social media isn't social at all (what's clicking 'like' got to do with conversation?), and on and on do I agree with you. Enjoyed every word. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Very glad to hear from you Caycay. With so many means to communicate supposedly instantly who would have thought lack of communication of a meaningful kind would be our biggest headache. Never mind with poetry of the quality I read on the soup gives hope that the pendulum might be swinging back to a more comfortable position. Have a great weekend. Best regards avid in NZ

Do people even ponder these thoughts? Will the young carry the torch? Great write, David!

Thank you so much for taking time to read and comment. We can only hope and keep banging against the brick walls. My eldest daughter is 27. We made chocolate fudge together the other day. I had time with her when she was little. I was an early childcare teacher for 30 years. Wrote book called "Suffer the Little Children" self published Xlibris not too many people interested in reality of how children are being starved of space and time with parents. I work as casual support worker - similar issues. Poetry can reach where other mediums can't and touch hearts that are all but untouchable. Best regards David in NZ

And they call it "progress." Very good, keep on being one of those "quite friendly" folks - I hope I run into you sometime.

Thank you for that lovely comment. One never knows who we might meet up with in unlikely places. Have been trying to get our local Mayor to have poets from around world in our new conference centre here in Lower Hutt, NZ. Very best regards David
