Not Alone

I was abused in many ways. Poetry is my way of coping, and of healing myself.
In the dark you roll against me,
And wrap your arms around so tight:
“I’m so afraid of the dark night
He will come, you’ll see, you’ll see.”
In the dark I hold you tightly,
Bury my nose in your long hair,
Promise you that I will care,
That none will hurt you, you’re with me.
In the dark I hum and comfort.
Tell you, you are safe and warm.
Pull you closer in my arms,
Far away from pain and hurt.
You are my little one, I love you.
Don’t forget: You’re not alone.
You’ll always be my special one,
Whatever you will say or do.
When we have the chance we’ll leave here,
Not for a second looking back
To those men who try to crack
Us, make us small and disappear.
But until then love, hold on tightly.
I will guide you through the night.
You are worth it, my bright light,
We will survive this, you and me.
