Notes About The Poem

nostalgica

I …

don’t imagine you remember
THAT song …
on endless repeat
while we danced slow and close in the foyer
and you melted into me …
after a time,
your hand filled with the spaces in mine
(sublimity)
up the stairs I tugged you -
moving silent through the darkened house
and into the bedroom
zippers and buttons parting like a
swan’s gentle wake
random trail of garments our only witness
as I laid you back onto cool percale
moon striping you with
soft, blue, patient shards of lustre
your skin, my tropical sea …
oh … I plunged it
and swam it
and drowned in that warm deep -
your soft throat sounds mixing with my sighs
and met with our mouths
Venus, turning me your mad captive -
Mars scaling Olympus
but brought to his weakened knees by desire
head spinning with
saturated thoughts of the places my
hands loved most …
on YOU …
Nothing.
Else.
you … and that soulful tune that
swirled like incense
in and around the moonlit magic that
held our love like a child -
precious … priceless … eternal
but …
it wasn’t.
do you recall it then?
do you ever listen to that song as
I do now …
just to hurt … on purpose?
to let that bittersweet be an ache in your bones …
an ache that frees your heart to wander again
that sweet, dark, romantic twilight?
an ache meant to remind -
to pull you back to something wondrous -
something serendipitously serene …
and deliciously sensual …
one of those unplanned moments that
are the little miracles of existence
and the true flavor … of life
do you remember??
it’s ok if you don’t
and it’s probably better that way -
better that I don’t know
for my lonely, foolhardy marrow
pines enough
wonders enough
trembles enough
stirs these silly starbound nights alone enough
and wishes enough …

for both of us.
