No Words Until They Come

No Words Until They Come Her question startles me I had no idea she could speak She never had before She is three We were used to her silence Suddenly she found her voice In one day I had six thousand questions Questions she had been pondering for three years "Why is God up there? Why is grass green? Why is that old lady's skin so thin? Why do we have to go there? She is three And speaking I have no words

Isn't she an interesting case? Wondrous, the ways of human development!... My oldest son spoke in one-syllable words until he was 28 months old. One day, he, his sister, my wife and I were making brownies and he burst our with this: "The monkeys of the future are dead. Spiders are crawling in lines up and down our walls..." Can you imagine?! ---I'll never forget it... :) gw

My mother-in-law who was a seasoned educator (about thirty years experience) kept saying something was "wrong" with my child. I kept saying she was not ready to talk yet. One day after six million questions and complete frustration I realized she had never said a complete sentence before that day of six million questions.
