and so you dust the book that's me right off the shelf called LOVERS You have found the others not to be as enthrallingly intense caressing the gilded pages, you take a moment to admire me through the layer of dust with eager fingers you try to pry my cover I will not let you open me again those lines of love and rhymes of passion encrypted with your name will no longer be available to be read consider this book, archaic Put me back on the shelf for I'd rather gather dust then be poured over by your careless fingers... fingers that have traced other lines eyes that have viewed other plots than mine Leave me alone for my mysteries were beyond your understanding a book not for the novice in love but for the mature the secure read the other volumes more slender than mine less complicated more frivolous entertaining devoid of depth of meaning devoid of passionate climaxes and intricate subplots Come back to me when you hold me as a sacred volume of love and life the only sacred writ to fit your needs then I will open my covers and let you devour the secrets of my essence the mysteries of your universe you will need no other book to live by to learn by to love by except this unabridged volume of poetry that is me. What a powerful way to express this book metaphor, Eileen!! Of course, I can't imagine you ever being forgotten and allowed to collect dust:) That book would have been a pleasure to read! Hugs // paul

Wow Eileen, the metaphoric symbology used with being a book is genius! I love how you address the lack and undeserving touch to chastise. A beautiful piece! Your sixth stanza a favorite I can identify with. Brilliant my friend! 7 ; )

Thank you for your careful read of this write, Connie. I'm just back to read some of the comments. Yes, not everyone with an interest should read this kind of book. Only the deserving get to read every page. Blessings, dear.

Thank you, Justin. So good to have you visit me again. I have missed your visits. I'm glad you like this piece. The metaphor is not an original one. Some other brilliant mind came up with that. :) See the pic with the poem. I'm that big thick book at the bottom of the pile. Big...and thick but full of heart and soul. Thanks for the visit, Eagle. You are always welcome here. Hugs

AHHHHHH....a masterpiece. Kim, you honor me. I can't take credit for the metaphor idea...it isn't originally mine. Someone has written a poem on the book being like a person's body. I took a slightly different approach. Glad you like it. Hugs

Oh, if only this had been posted about a year ago when I got bombarded with messages on FacePlace from a certain person who begged me to answer, come back, etc.! I would have sought your permission to use each verse until you offered to be 'read' IF certain things changed. Oh well, I really didn't care enough to answer him at all, but how cool to find this poem - Plus, I love the book metaphors ... CayCay

Thanks, beautiful lady. The book metaphor isn't a new one, but...it was apt for this poem. I'm a bigger volume... ;) Lots of complicated twists and turns. I wish you well, dear. If this has resonated with you...I'm glad. Hugs
