No One Knows

The reign of death will last as long as time when my last fruit changes into wormwood the death of life is not misunderstood when candles lit will cause the bells to chime silent in death's repose lay I disguised this end will count the minuscule of years and quell the fear unknown when it appears from Heaven's Kingdom minds have actualized no way can I vanquish the time of death dispenses me as if a rotten gourd the fear of what's beyond in silence grows when life cannot sustain the fate of breath I'll find Charon's ferry and get aboard the question asked of truth is no one knows 4/6/23 contest I Died

Frederic, you are one of the most versatile writers on PS. You do well regardless of the form. Your sonnet writing style is similar to mine, at least in my opinion, in that it comes across as a pondering thought or momentary event, and no caps at the beginning of some lines. These things draw me to your writing and I study the style more so than content. Well done.

This is sublime writing, I especially like 'the death of life' and 'quell the fear unknown when it appears' - that is the greatest mystery, congratulations on your win~

Frederic, dear friend, dear poet, indeed no one knows.. but what we do know is that death is inevitable as you express so eloquently; "no way can I vanquish the time of death / "when life cannot sustain the fate of breath" / "I'll find Charon's ferry and get aboard".. in the end, we must accept our fate. A beautiful, soulful, contemplative sonnet. Your golden pen shines! Congratulations for your excellent placement in Craig's contest. It's a pleasure and an honor to share the podium with you, Frederic. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

I think it's the unknown we fear, and how death will come--will it be easy or full of pain. And it's true--we know not when or where. Like birth, we must do it alone, hopeful of greetings by those gone before.

The fear of death surpasses all other fears, until ignorance is removed and we recognise, free from doubt, who in truth we are, which is ~ eternal living light, being our true Self that is made in God’s image
