No More Goodbyes

The Carpenters in their time were defining,
Offered their fans so much more than more,
Uncanny that the words of this song keep returning,
For the brave Ukrainians, a heartfelt encore.

Why does the sun go on shining,
Why does the sea rush to shore?
Don't they know it's the end of the world
'Cause you don't love me anymore?

Why do people keep on sighing, God is all knowing
He is with, and loves each victim on either side,
Because of this war families are dying, HE is hurting,
That one man with ego changed a country’s tide

Why do the birds go on singing?
Why do the stars glow above?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when I lost your love

First thing in the morning and every night
For their peace I am constantly praying,
How cruel to say goodbye to the who must fight,
Husbands, fathers, children or brothers, crying.

I wake up in the morning and I wonder
Why everything is the same as it was
I can't understand, no, I can't understand
How life goes on the way it does

So many widows, soldiers dying every day,
So many orphans from this uncalled slaughter,
Innocents whose lives have suddenly gone array,
I saw a man on the news, cradling his infant daughter.

Why does my heart go on beating?
Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when you said goodbye

Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when you said goodbye

The Ukrainians must win, no more goodbyes
Not the end of the world, but a new beginning,
For without a shadow of doubt the good guys,
Must live to record history, their pride rimming.

Just now seeing this message you left me. I rarely see replies on people's poems because I removed notifications . They were taking too much space in my email account. Anyway. Good to know why you were MIA for a while. I hope you get better really soon

I agree with John Watt's comment below mine. This is most definitely POTD quality, algorithm or no! Really like how you interwove the Carpenters' song with your poignant comments on the heart-breaking tale of human misery being writ large on the world's stage in Ukraine. Thank you, Jennifer. Hope, Gershon

Gershon, thank-you, this comment coming from you is simply awesome, i am very proud that you and jOHN THOUghT IT HAD POTD quality, but I AM WRITING TO THE MASTER OF ENGLISH AND I MESS up MY cAPS AND SMALL letters, so unforgiveable, but I WOULD HAVE TO RE-WRITE MY EVERY COMMENT. I APOLOGISED to JOHN AND also do so to you my friend Gershon, I AM SO GLAD THAT POETRY has been a platform for us all to make special friends, like yourself and John. Hugs and blessings Jennifer.

Jenn, your compassionate soul shines in these words. The beautiful Carpenter's rendition of this sad song brought to your heart the tragedy playing out daily in Ukraine due to a heartless and greedy despot. Your hope in a new beginning is inspiring. So blessed I read these words from your talented pen and humane heart today. This is POTD material in my book! I've been concerned about you, but reading your response to Andrea, I'm happy you are feeling better. I sent you a soupmail, but I assume your soupmail is still broken. Blessings and hugs ~ John

Hi Andrea i have not been well for just over a month. I started with a few cysts around my eye, got the flu, had a fall and hit my head, so had to have an MRI and have just finished taking an antibiotic for a bladder infection. During all this time i had a temperature (for 6 weeks) of about 37, 37.2, 37.1, 37, every day. I Finally went to anther plastic surgeon/opthalmologist who told me i had a very bad infection on one of the cysts that were removed which was giving me the fever, gave me medication and I feel so much better. I just wasn't feeling my self. Hope you are well and thank you For Inquiring after me, that is what friends are for. LOVE AND HUGS, Jennifer.

Beautifully written and well said with wonderful emotion Jennifer. I think we all can feel as you do. It's horrible what is happening over there right now. How can anyone be so cruel as to be the very cause of such suffering. Good jb. God Bless, JB

Jennifer I’m in awe of you for writing such a heartfelt poem written about the atrocity of war on Ukraine, it’s evil and cruel to kill and maim innocent people. I love that song by the Carpenters and it fits in with your poem well. Blessings and hugs, Belle

You did a beautiful, moving job connecting the present horrors with the song. The Skeeter Davis rendition (1963) is good too. Janice

Nothing unusual for 90 people to be shot ny morons each weekend. It will end When we junk on brain dead leaders here. Now we bringing in the Middle Easr who loathe the USA. Food, gas expensive here and rising, many will die there abd here. Please pray..your, Pangie

Politicians are there to make decisions, most of them are not what the people want. My heart is breaking for the Ukraine. A few Presidents are dictators and rule, invoking fear, others are power seekers, many are just there for the ride and the money, and some seek popularity/versus stern decisions that have to be made but the present situation is inhumane, a country and its people, which without any provocation were and continue being attacked and destroyed, unthinkable. Great to hear from you Greek sis. Blessings and hugs Jennifer.

Because of the bloated ego of one person, thousands have to suffer !With one good man, the world becomes blessed, with one wicked person it gets doomed ! Hope goodness will triumph ultimately !
