No Intention of Jumping Off the Cliff

I have no intention of jumping off the cliff, Despite having the ability to manufacture a reason, To show there is a season. So why am I so sure, When others who seem much more together, than me, Jump out of season, For no apparent reason. If I ever wrote a list of reasons to, It would far outweigh the reasons not to. But still the seasons and the reasons come and go, And I am still not seen at the top of the cliff, Despite many a tiff. I can't blame my apparent sanity, For this state of mind, That has got me through so many seasons, When others for whatever reason, Have chosen to end a season, Looking up from the bottom of a cliff, As all who know me will agree, I have had moments they don't believe were sane. Maybe I was born lucky and came without a self-destruct button, Or decided early on that purpose can outweigh almost any number of reasons, For not seeing out another season. Especially if that purpose has was planted in the right soil, By those who were not afraid of a little toil, Or cod liver oil, Mixed with malt that came in a can that never seemed to run out, No matter how many times my spoon was dipped into it, When I thought no one was looking. So, if you are standing at the top of a cliff, Because of some tiff, And have never tasted malt and cod liver oil, I know a place where you can get it wholesale, But only online while we are in lockdown, To keep the death rate down.

You are right about sport. Although gambling on it is not always good for those with weak heart. Regards David.

Your Poem brought back memories when I lived in London in the Blitz, we had to line up in the classroom to receive a large Tablespoon each of this Cod liver Oil and Malt from a large tin, many of the children liked it, It made me feel violently sick ( both taste and look of it ) fortunately there wasn't a cliff insight. I enjoyed reading your Poem ...Thank you

Sorry you did not enjoy the malt but glad you liked the poem. Finding a purpose in life is pretty important for mental health as is feeling needed. Take care and thanks for taking time to read. Regards David

As a side: what malt are you referring too? I was thinking of chocolate malts, a form of ice cream (but I also know there's malt liquor ... but that's not eaten with a spoon).

Thanks for spotting typo. The malt I am referring too is like a treacle or golden syrup and slightly n between the two in consistency. You could get it in plain malt or with cod liver oil which I liked best. I am sure you can get it but probably a lot more expensive. Just looked it up and you can buy 650g on Amazon. Contains Vitamin A and D vitamin D helps facilitate absorption of calcium in bones.

Verrry interesting musings here, David. It seems so strange to see those that seem so outwardly happy fall into this state ... just inches away from a cliff debating that final leap. I think you have a typo in one line: "I can't blame my apparent my sanity" the second "my". I relate to what you're saying here, as I, too, could never imagine a reason to end it all (even though I've definitely had my low moments ... just merely living, seems a no-brainer). Also liked the irony in the last stanza.
