Notes About The Poem

No, I'M Not Kidding

As I reminisce
through childhood eyes
I see vivid images
of my family home
where bumbles would bounce

Our garden seemed to stretch for miles...
perhaps that’s why
I made an odd birthday request
for a nanny goat as a pet !
Taking her home in dad’s VW Beetle car
caused quite a stir ...
‘Susie’ perched precariously on a seat
her horned head poking out of the window!

We deemed Susie
our Caprinae vaccum
she'd attempt to hoover up
anything that came her way -
even dad's underpants
which flew off the line
one blustery day
Oh, what precious memories!

Indeed, no kidding, Jan! We used to have goats at my grandparents', and they were characteristically similar to your Susie. Congratulations on your fine win. Hugs // paul

I had a cat named Bilbo whom I miss. A goat as a pet - interesting theme for poetry. And you tell us it's true! Peace & Love Matthew Anish

G'day Jan … brought back memories to me about having a goat. I wanted it to eat the blackberry thickets. Problem was; it ate everything else and ringbarked a few trees. Thank you Jan - Lindsay

lol they can be picky but Susie wasn't her favourite food was bananas, we would go to the market late in the afternoon when they were throwing stuff out that hadn't sold - bought back bags of stuff for her - she was cheap to feed lol:-)

- I remember once we drove across the mountain ... a herd of goats ... of course we had to stop - but we forgot to close all the doors in the car - two goats climbed into the car and started eating my handbag ... a lot of work to get them out of the car :))) - Thanks for the fun memories ... both yours and mine :))) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)
