New Year's Prayer - 2016

a Cornish sonnet

God, resolutions have their special place -
and hectic New Year's plans belong to You.
Guide us, first and always, to seek Your face.
We know, Lord, You have established Your plan;
stop us from setting goals of what we'd do
to take the glory from what You began.

Hundreds of new years before we were born,
Jesus resolved mankind's sins He'd atone.
Help us fulfill His wishes without scorn.
Lead us, Lord, as our Mentor to obey
like You, and leave the plan to God alone.
It's our resolve to thank Him every day.

God, resolutions have their special place
hundreds of new years before we were born.
