Neighbours hadn’t seen Johnny since his beloved wife’s funeral Even then, no one thought to check if the old man was okay Gasps of horror were heard when his body was discovered Limply hanging from the rafters of his bedroom ceiling Even the post piling up in the porch hadn’t alerted anyone Clasped in his hands a picture of his darling wife and a cell phone…. The last number he had dialled was the Samaritans Contest: Deep and Dark Sponsor: Broken Wings 12~25~15

Sad, Jan. Sometimes grief is insurmountable even when deep down we don't want it to be. Very nicely constructed poem. Like the use of the N spelling out the word Neglect and the would Neighbors as a counterpoint.

This is hard and very emotional. I have know a few young men close to me commit suicide and it is devastating. Good luck in the contest dear friend.

I know of a couple of people Eve I just imagined an old man losing his wife and not wanting to continue with life and the rest of the poem just flowed:-( hugs Jan xx

Well, it is sad that the suicide happened without anyone to be able to stop it..I am not sure if this was a real event or just a made up event from your mom's experiences..Enjoyed reading your contest entry..Thanks for stopping by my blog..Sara

This kind of thing is truly sad, Jan. (I wonder why he was calling the Samaritans, did you mean that maybe he was trying to stop what he had started?) Now I need to think what to do for this one!!!

I left it open to interpretation - was he calling to say he was depressed and was going to take his life or call them to talk about it and then still carry the act out... so sad - my mum used to man the phones for the samariatans when we lived in the Uk many many years ago - she was always exhausted mentally after her shift:-( hugs Jan xx

Jan this is a wonderful acrostic, very nice flow, you were totally unencumbered by the enforced structure, felt like a natural poem. You should do very well with this one!
