Sandman Sings a Lullaby

It's been a gorgeous summer day
but now that it is time for bed
your busy mind still wants to play.
Why don't you snuggle close to me,
come, watch the sunset with your mom,
it's so beautiful, and yet, free.
Just look at that pretty pink sky
inked by a sinking scarlet sun,
nature can overwhelm the eye.
Capture its beauty like a tear
and let it trickle down your cheeks,
close your eyes; there's nothing to fear.
At dusk, the stars will all come out
to twinkle brightly in the night,
and we'll see shooting stars, no doubt.
But sleep's tempting you, I can tell,
tugging your lids, partially closed,
give in, let go baby, all's well.
The Sandman sings a lullaby
and you can no longer resist,
for it's time to give dreams a try.
The wizened old man in the moon
vows that He will watch over you,
as the nightingale sings its tune.
