Myrtle the Turtle - a Nursery Rhyme

Myrtle the turtle was as slow as could be She knew she could never climb up a tree She knew she could never win a big race She knew she could never fly up into space. She knew she could never ever roller skate And, yes, Myrtle the turtle was always late! My goodness! What could Myrtle the turtle do? [Note: Any child 5 or under will have lots of ideas about what Myrtle can do!] FIRST PLACE WINNER March 5, 2021 Written for Nursery Rhyme Contest Sponsored by Eve Roper [Published in Nursery Rhymes & Stories From Poets Around the World, Eve Roper, Editor, Kindle Direct Publishing, 2021]

Oh, I imagine Myrtle is put to rest unless there's another similar contest. I'm not much of a nursery rhyme writer. I did write a short story about Timmy Turtle once, who kept moving with the shade. Thanks for your encouragement.

Yep, apparently. I once wrote a children's short story called "Timothy Turtle...." I guess Myrtle was his mother! LOL. Thanks for stopping by.

This reminds me of when I was in first grade. The teacher displayed a turtle a student brought in to the class. A name had to be chosen among several suggestions from the students. One of them was "Myrtle".

I guess Myrtle the turtle was late ’cause a turtle can’t hurtle. Nice one. Good luck in contest. Terry
