My Winter
There seems to be a sense of magic this time of year,
with icicles dangling from my sill with hues of a rainbow-
Angels with white wings made by my daughter in the snow,
and the snow-capped pine trees reach heavenly heights,
in early Winter I string up the beautiful Christmas lights,
it’s time to use the sled on the slippery slopes below.
I remember one time when I went outside for a brisk walk,
the dog’s breath was foggy from the cold Winter air-
I saw a bald eagle in flight and all I could do was stare,
he was so majestic and full of might with strength,
searching for his baby’s food at any given length.
I couldn’t believe the beauty I saw soaring up there.
When the snowflakes linger I look back at my youth,
when grandma’s mittens were warmer than July-
She would always bake moist apple crisp pie,
and we would eat around the table as a family should,
and papa would stroll outside searching for firewood.
This memory always brings a tear to my tender eye.
Winter is my favorite season with mamma’s hot cocoa,
she always knew when I needed the comfort of her love-
I walk to my church of Christmas Eve and see a turtle dove,
it circles with the glow of Winter I’ll always remember,
for there is nothing like the exciting month of December,
as I feel gratitude and faith from the Lord up above.
