My Trip Out West
MY TRIP OUT WEST
In the wide open spaces of Wyoming
Where sheep and horses graze
I took a notion to do some roamin'
And spend at least a few days
The days turned into weeks
The weeks turned into months
I had to go back to take a peek
'Cause I had been there once
So I ended up in U Cross
Population twenty five
So small no one could get lost
Beautiful and hard to describe
A local ranch put me to work
Making beds and cleaning stalls
Host, bell hop and soda jerk
Mending fences, and that ain't all
I ran a jack hammer, maintained the pool
Conducted trail rides for the guests
Took care of horses, learned to use tools
And sometimes got a chance to rest
In a gorgeous meadow surrounded by hills
Where the deer and the antelope play
Stood a quaint log cabin with all the frills
Was where I was allowed to stay
And when the stars came out at night
I thanked the Lord that I was there
To behold this awesome, breathtaking sight
Serene and peaceful beyond compare
I could go on and say much more
Writing page after page, after page
And I don't think you would really be bored
But it would take so long you would age
So I'll say no more about U Cross
And the time that I went roamin'
But in my memories, I become lost
And want to go back to Wyoming
