For The Contest- Quatern, “Four Lines From Any Song”
  Sponsor, Joseph May

“In English verse, 'prayer' is almost always treated as a single
syllable. If it is to be sung over more than one note, handle it
in the lyrics the same way as any other single-syllable word.
The number of times this word is intended to be two syllables
 is vanishingly small.”
Ref: Myriad Forum, ”Problem with the word 'prayer' in English".

“My prayer is to linger with you-” our hearts, with strong beats keeping time. Our minds upon paths we proved true- souls melded with spirit sublime. “Tonight, while our hearts are aglow-” my prayer is to linger with you; as always, together to show strong bonds help us to carry through. “My prayer is a rapture in blue-” bright skies and the night's soothing moon. My prayer is to linger with you- our kind hearts forever in tune. “My prayer is the answer you give-” while traveling our avenue; know well, for as long as we live, my prayer is to linger with you. Four lines, (in bold), from the song, “My Prayer” by the Platters, 1954 Word "prayer" one syllable - as sung in song; (See notes section).
