My Phone

I couldn’t live without my phone Although when I was younger, Since mobile phones did not exist, I didn’t have that hunger. I waited ‘til I got back home To call a friend for schmoozing.* My mom would write a message, If I got one, for perusing. Encyclopedias were there To look up information. No Google at my fingertips – That was the situation. A Kodak camera using film Took photos that I needed. Alarm clocks woke me up So my anxiety receded. Each application on my phone – The games and WAZE and weather – Are things I never had on hand, At least not all together. I lived without them easily, Not feeling discontented Until, of course, the year in which The iPhone was invented! *chatting, shooting the breeze

I have managed to live happily sans telephone, perhaps by living far enough away from loved ones that there is nothing I could do if anything happened. My children can not, leaving me to worry what will happen when batteries fail and there is no way to recharge them. Aloha! Rico

I cannot imagine children of today without their phones. If technology is wiped out, will it be the end of us? Remember when the phones had cords and we had to hide around the corner, out of Mom's sight, stretching them as far as we could? Nicely done my friend. Happy Holidays Ilene!

Splendid write, Ilene! I'm revealing my age but I recall the old crank phone on the wall and the dial phone. I have a cell phone but like Connie, I have to contact my gurus (grandkids) to figure the confounded thing out! - Bob H

Those iPhones do spoil us and the present generation has no clue how difficult it was trying to find exactly the right information in an encyclopedia. Of course I still don’t know how to work my iPhone and find I need to call my daughter for help when I get stuck or press the wrong button. It is a work in progress lol. I enjoyed your poem that we will have to remember how fortunate we are to live in a cyber world Ilene. I wish you a very happy new year in 2021. Mele Kalikimaka my friend. xxoo

I'm not a phone freak as some of my friends are. I'm a computer addict – at a loss without it when it breaks down. Never thought a "thing" would affect me like that. / Maurice

LOL I'm still using an old flip-phone, Ilene. Don't have any teens to teach me how to use the TracPhone I bought, so I could only use it to call my friend Jack in England. Oh well, technology is not my friend. Enjoyed your "slice-of-life" poem very much. Have a wonderful Christmas! Best wishes, carolyn
