My Pencil Point

My pencil point was out of joint And didn’t feel like writing Although the page was clean and fresh With lines that looked inviting. Its sullen mood had me imbued With thoughts I tried to deaden, For many wouldn’t place their trust In one so plainly leaden. Yet oftentimes we conjure rhymes Quite quickly and with pleasure. Perhaps the credit should be shared By us in equal measure.

Do you really use a pencil to write your poems, Ilene? I'll take my computer any day. Editing is so much easier! And I get to see exactly how each line falls on the screen. For jotting down quick notes, however, I use a ballpoint. I'm not into labtops yet. Delightful poem. /M

hey maurice! yes, i always use a pencil when i write and the eraser makes editing really easy, too. thanks for all of your much-appreciated comments...
