My Old Hometown

Everything seems smaller
as I revisit old haunts.
Stores where I shopped and
the building where I was schooled
have vanished along with
youth’s dreams that stirred my passions.
I’m a stranger here now.

I know this feeling all to well. The thinking of going back in time to everything being as it was when I grew up. Boy, was I wrong. I went back with my husband to my 60th class reunion where I grew up. I wanted to show him everything. I found it had changed so much I couldn't find where I used to live without the gps. It was a heart wrenching experience as nothing was the same.

' I’m a stranger here now. ' That's so sad. I understand things change, but some things need to remain the same. For reflection. Memories. Congratulations Andrea, on Poem of the Day. Hugs and blessings. Brandy

Congratulations on Poem Of The Day Andrea! Quaint & folksy. What should've been a warm homecoming with great expectations becomes uncomfortable awakenings for some, on the other hand good for closures of many kinds. Your star still shines bright #1 poet :)

Thanks. And yes it is so sad when we have all these expectations that get shattered , like when I went to my 50th high school reunion recently.

Congratulations on your top win, dear poetess, with a lovely poem that many may find themselves in as it is applicable to so may towns and villages around the world. After so many years, one would really be a stranger in one`s own hometown. A very thoughtful take on the prompt. Wish you a splendid coming new week.
