My Little Son
That funny smile
that laugh so sweet
those tiny precious
hands and feet
Just two years old
and full of joy
oh how I loved
that little boy
He stole my heart
then went away
I never will
forget that day
We waved goodbye
and he was gone
but deep inside
he lingers on
He took to me
and I to him
that memory
will never dim
I never thought
I'd see the day
when I would ever
feel this way
For a child
such as this
whose cheerful face
I dearly miss
And ever since
I do lament
for all the time
I have misspent
For things that I
would never see
and wishes that
could never be
And then he'll cross
my mind again
and all those lovely
moments when
I'd pick him up
like he was mine
a gift so rare
and so divine
Once I had
a dream inside
but I grew older
and it died
And through my fingers
slipped away
the visions of
a better day
And like a breeze
he passed on by
this tiny boy
who made me cry
Oh how I miss
your funny grin
my little son
who might have been
