My Last Love

You are not my first love,

     the love of my youth.

The love of wonder and hope

that quickly became tears and anger.

A love that flared brightly

if only for the briefest of time.

You are not my grown love,

the love of passion and desire

That turned too quickly to responsibility

    and living day to day.

An ever-changing love that felt betrayed

    by the passion lost.

But you are my last love,

    the rock that centers me.

My trusted twin soul.

    The love that understands

That love is what you need it to be,

when you need it to be.
