My Inward Journey

Studying religion
   at church and school,
     taking personality tests,
        and learning my Zodiac
                composed a big part
                    of my inward journey.
                           What else to it
                                 could there be?
                                   I’m not one to take
                                            self-inventory.
                                                 I simply am
                                                      what I am.
                                                         But the years
                                                         crept up on me.
                                                       New maladies
                                                 weighed me down.
                                            So many things
                                        piled up on me
                                   while experiences,
                              thoughts and feelings
                          then appeared as poetry!
                 Material things mean little
as more inward I now go
      looking more and more
 toward God.

or "the shape of things to come" except, they are as Real as all that's left behind which, in the moment, we find - be still and know that I am God (In the scales perfect balance, motion ceases).

Oh this insight this one holds! The journey taken to life and how these experiences have led you closer to God... absolutely beautiful, Andrea, and soul-stirring as well.. each one of us has their own soulful road to take ~ that takes us beyond materialism and makes us cherish the light! I'm glad that your feelings through poetry contribute in that! So lovely reading your words today, sending best wishes and light.

A Great journey inward. As we age, this is how it should be, dear Andrea. I feel it is a natural transformation happening in everyone with some early exposure to God and religion.

Hopefully it happens also to people with no former religious training but those who simply seek truth.

Love the form, draws us right in to your thoughts. I agree that material things mean little. Funny how that happens. Hugs, Andrea!

I enjoyed the flow and raw honesty of this. It is funny how time flies isn’t it? Great job!

Agreed. Pray for them and perhaps it will be revealed even if not sooner but later.

Life is a blink of the eye in the whole of our eternal life. I wish I could get my friends that are unbelievers to realize this

I enjoy this, Andrea; not only the words but the visual form illustrates the inward journey--like a bird or an arrow in flight. I have, also, observed your journey toward God. May we truly find that Christ is the Way, the Truth, the Life. I have been away from here too long (I guess); being more active does make me more intentional in putting pen to paper.

Hey. It IS like a bird in flight!! That wasn't even what I was going for, but I like that

It's been quite the journey for me as I have struggled with some aspects of my faith but I feel like I get it now. So nice seeing you again.

LOL. Well said, Andrea; yep, almost all the senior citizens I know are becoming saints in their latter years. Seldom fails. Already you know my feelings about poetry...for me poetry is Sacred. If a write is not seeking development of loftier ideals, then it is not worth the paper.

Not all are becoming saints. Hahaha . I would revise what you said to be that all authentic poetry from the heart is sacred. But we still need to make room for the humorous and whimsical poems

Hello Andrea, Quite a journey it's been. I really like this introspective poem. The thoughts of an individual, such a special thing. No further explanation required. Life does well enough in this regard. I hope you've lived your best one. -Richard

From time to time I try to stop by, smell the roses. Not as much as I'd like though. Funny how much you miss the company. "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." -John Lennon I hope your weekend is kind to you. -Richard
