Notes About The Poem

The ring is a lot smaller and more delicate than this one

My Grandmother's Ring

I never met my maternal grandmother - She died from cancer when my mum was aged only eight Her sepia photograph sits in a silver frame on mum’s dresser Many years ago mum gave me a ring that belonged to her mother It’s delicate and pretty with three small red garnets and opals The first time I slipped it on my finger it fitted perfectly! When I wear the ring it makes me think of my grandmother How I wish that I had had the chance to meet her..... But sadly it was not to be Wearing her ring makes me feel close to her It’s almost like her hand is on mine Contest Sponsored by Broken Wings Old jewelry or just old things. 10~27~16

A lovely, touching poem, Jan. I presume that this ring has been worn at least on three different fingers! I can more than just imagine this beautiful ring!!! Hugs // paul

I wore the ring in Malta Paul I forgot to show it to you when we met - it is quite different from the pic much smaller stone and the opals are dominant and not the garnets:-) i will bring it on our next visit:-) hugs jan xx

Hi Jan, This is a such a touching story. It's so sentimental. It's good that you got something that belonged to your grandmother" Wearing her ring makes me feel close to her, It’s almost like her hand is on mine" Were some heart tugging lines.I wish you the best of luck in the contest:-) Alexis

I wish I had had the chance to meet her - my mothers says I am very like her:-) she used to write poetry as do my aunt and uncle (they wrote LOTS of limericks and funny poems) and mum used to write too but I never ever saw any so I don't know if they were happy or sad poems:-( hugs Jan xx

I wish I had had the chance to meet her Paloma - the ring is the closest thing to touching her... my mum still refers to her as 'mummy' it is quite heartbreaking she died so young:-( hugs Jan xx

Jan, very sentimental write. Just look in the mirror, she'll be looking at you:) It may not be the same but she is running through your veins. You know her. Maybe not in the physical sense but you know her. Gorgeous ring.

My mum says I am very like her -and my grandma and many of that side of the family wrote poetry especially funny poems so I guess its in my blood:-) the ring is actually mainly opal with 2 small garnets on either side but this was the nearest I could find with a pic:-) hugs Jan x

Lovely, dear. I can imagine that when you wear it, you feel a close bond. Good luck in the contest. How sad it must have been for your Mum to lose her at such an early age.

Hold the ring as a dear memory Jan. It pays off for not having met her. Hold her picture dear too I remember many things about my grandmother. Her picture is being Kept by one who claims her as a Saint and would release it to no one else. She had 7 grandchildren!
