My Feral Celtic Faerie Queene

Daniel Henry Rodgers

"Some loves are not soft words but war cries—wild, untamed, and stirred with ruin. And in that chaos, we find a place some call home." - Poet

========================

babe I stumbled home— drenched in Guinness, soaked in guilt the apartment crumbles, a shattered ruin but you—your copper mane ablaze— my wild Morrigan a feral Celtic Faerie Queene waging war against the wreckage. You told me love was a lie stitched by leprechauns but your touch proves there’s truth in everything we break and rebuild. Chased the wail of a banshee tonight hoping to drown the shame gulped it down like bottom-shelf whiskey. Instead I christened the clover— four leaves or forty—who cares? — baptizing failures trembling hands at work. In this emerald world of lies forget unicorns rainbows and clovers— false luck's for fools and drunks. Luck’s a liar a Puca’s trick crumbling when touched. But you— wear that emerald dress like a battle cry. A storm inside a woman whiskey-fire eyes dare me to fall harder and I do. Every time. You are my reel— venomous alive an unseelie’s song the one thing that won’t let me escape. I’ve fed the snakes with my mistakes but still I kneel before you— a fool drunk on you more potent than any fairy brew. We aren’t saints but we’re still here— holding on to this wreckage with blood-stained hands. Pour another pint, love— let’s dance on glass fragments our broken dreams— our frenzied jig painting the town green— two misfits spinning through this carnival of Fiana fools. In the chaos in the ruin we find each other. No leprechaun guards our gold but you—my queen of chaos— are treasure enough to keep me alive. So here's to you, my wild Morrigan— in your eyes I find my home the only shelter I’ve ever known. in your smile, I find sanctuary and storm alike— for you, are my feral Celtic Faerie Queen.

Poem of the year, in my humble heart! The undaunting swirl of images, lovers facing inner demons and human love with its slings and arrows, is a tribute to you, Daniel, as a poet out to really create this jewel, that uplifts me, to desist from writing the poetry that is lesser, easy and fast! Bouquets, yes, on your admirable delight am so very pleased to “”fav! Magna Cum Laude! Panagiota Romios

What a strange alliance of a drunkard and a Celtic Faerie Queene, the red haired Morrigan! How beautifully you have delineated their unique romance. You have also incorporated all elements of the Celtic folklore and brought in the spirit of St. Patrick Day.... the leprechauns, the banshee, the clover et al. "Pour another pint, love— let’s dance on glass fragments our broken dreams— our frenzied jig painting the town green— two misfits spinning through this carnival of Fiana fools." What a felicitous atmosphere you have dreated! "No leprechaun guards our gold but you—my queen of chaos— are treasure enough to keep me alive" What deep avowal of love and words of gallantry, reflecting the spirit of Red cross knights! So much enjoyed, dear Daniel.

Dear Valsa, what a joy reading your note this morning. It is a strange alliance and I wanted it to be different from the typical Irish poem on St. Paddy's Day. I have lots of influences where I grew up on the farmlands of Gettysburg, where some people have these types of relationships. Thank You!! Spring Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Dear Empress, I am so thankful that you are part of my life! I grew up out in the farmlands of Pennsylvania and out there love can look very different than the typical love we see in most writings. Since it was St. Paddy's Day, I wanted to ink out something that was very Irish and reflected a feral love built on true love. Thank you as always and I am so highly appreciative of your comments. Spring Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

An Irish man’s tale spun with care, about a Faerie Queen, poetry with a lyric’s flare. You must have kissed the blarney stone for its gift, poet. I love the sea shanties, Limericks and tales as these, in them I’m pleased. If only I had a copper mane like Morrigan I wish I were Irish; I’d sing a Fenian song. A delightful contribution for Paddy's Day. Happy Paddy's Day, Daniel! ~

Dear Anaya, I thought that most people would put down the traditional thoughts about St Pat's day which I am grateful for. I wanted to shake it up a bit and had a lot of fun writing this realistic picture for some. Thank you and I hope that you had a great St. Paddy's Day!! Spring Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Daniel, your imagination, your eloquence and your natural creative ability are more than evident in this intriguing write - the red fiery hair, the emerald green dress that your - Feral Celtic Faerie Queene - wears as a battle cry - her whiskey fire eyes that dare you - draw you to her, you are drunk on her, In her smile however, you find both sanctuary and shelter. I applaud your poetic talent my friend. I think this is the most fascinating poem I have ever read on Poetry Soup Hugs Jennifer.

Such a cool write, Daniel! Complex and unique. They don’t see themselves as the perfect couple but they make the wildness work for them. … But you— wear that emerald dress like a battle cry...she is for this warrior.

Dear Kim, It is funny because growing up I knew several couples like this who really did have a wild part of their lives but I knew they would never give up on each other. She is a warrior for sure and you almost have to be to make it work. Thank you and I appreciate you!! Spring Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Daniel, Happy St. Patrick's day and smiles for making this available to us. If there's an example that love conquers all, this is it. It goes to show that there's many associations that can function and we can allow for them and respect them. I don't think their abode would work very well as and Airbnb, but it would be interesting to be there. The extremes you create for us are very educational! Thanks for the safety of the poetic view!!

You brought memories of Spencer's epic The Faerie Queen which I studied many moons ago. Of course this is something different. Irish lore is always fascinating. You did so well with this poem.

Daniel, you've certainly done justice to that visual accompanying your creative lines, or is it the other way around? A feral woman and a drunkard... what a pair and what strength the tie that binds them. Your lines are always skillfully written and woven with metaphors. I found a wee bit of a reason to smile in this one when he christened the clover. ;-) A write to honor St. Patrick's Day... accomplished!

Dear Lin, I wrote this about a month ago with a couple of tweaks here and there, but I wanted to post it the day before St. Patrick's Day. I am so glad you picked up on the clover. What better comparison than a drunkard and a feral woman. It is always a joy to see your comments. Spring Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel
