My Eyes, My Ears

My eyes are seeing things they shouldn't have to see --- every single day--- My eyes are weeping and heavy with pain, throbbing --- must look away --- I will dab and daub you for sobs of life and lives gone astray ---in so many ways--- My eyes long for earlier years when they saw life more clearly ---less blurry--- With clear lines clean and fairly well defined ---in that time--- Happy with all that came before them, wide open and ready to be entertained --- --- so ready--- Now shocked and sad with what they have to witness Like being in a bad dream only to realize it's for real ---dreams aren't this sad--- My eyes ask if they can erase or delete these sad sights Parentless children with no lights in a tortured life ---no lights, dim or bright --- Only doom and darkness, hopeless, noose tight by those people living in their house ---only room for gloom--- not deserved to be called parents ---only users and abusers--- ---and losers--- My ears hear drug slurred words, harsh talk drug crazed ideas and weird, warped thoughts ---they use---kids accused--- My eyes beg to be closed, it's all a blur and cloudy They can't see clear and are longing for past views ---like years ago-- Please ears and eyes, don't fail me now Horrible hurts you've seen and heard, I am so sorry ---I know you're scared--- I'm is this weird, wicked, sometimes evil existence ---with both of you--- We will make it through together, unscathed ---we will be ok--- We will make it through somehow, uninjured --- all is ok-- We will choose to live our best life, in unison ----we are ok--- I will protect you from harm as best I can but We will cope and thrive, and survive with purpose and power, because--- ---this is the real world now---

Appreciate this tension between the adult real world and the lost childhood healthier feeling, and perhaps thinking, world. Connects "become like children" and "I have come to turn the world upside down" for me. With warm regard Gerald Oliver
