My Emptiness

I lay there wide awake, sleep elusive tonight, My wife slumbered on, mewing softly in a dream. I gazed on her form, draped only in moonlight. The Devil must have seen us, A dark thought in the night. What if she had never been? What if to her I was unseen? I tried hard to shake myself free, Saying this could never be. Into a fitful sleep I then slid, Keeping thoughts from Satan hid. But the tormentor stayed in my dream, In my darkness I rent out a silent scream. My wife beside me was not to be seen, I knew then, without a doubt, my dream. Was the Devil trying to make a split between, Two lovers, that God had brought together. I knew then we were entwined forever. The darkness where I could see no end, Was the devil trying to make me bend, To his will, My faith in God had said no chance. To the devil's tune I would never dance. So I gazed upon my wife who slumbered on. I thanked God that we were One. Not just in this life,it is a phase just passing, We will be joined still, in the Everlasting. © Dave Timperley 30/08/2018

Eerie, downright scary and still very beautiful, at the same time; well penned, sir.
