Congratulations, Jan! I've been reading and laughing at your poems for all those years. You are a born writer. I've been with soup for over 10 years and have written over a 1000 poems! Like you, Jan, I hated English in grammar and high school, almost failing to graduate! My english teacher would be astonished to learn I have published five books of poems! Prize your gift with words. / M

Hi Jan, First of all I want to say Happy Soup Anniversary! Although you came here to deal and cope with your husband's cancer ( It's good to hear he's cancer free). I am sooo happy that you are here. Your presence here has really impacted my life, you caused me to smile when I had a terrible day. I can say more on how your presence here impacted me, but I will give others the chance to say how amazing you are. This is most definitely a win. I wish you the best of luck in the contest:-) Alexis

Funny how difficult things can move one into something new. We are so glad to have you here at PS! Hope all is well! I have been praying for a friend with colon cancer. Her husband serves her well and keeps up the spirits. She is going on a year, now on new meds. Still hopeful.

Who had cancer? Your husband? It is fun writing for the soup - my writing instructor at the New School thought I had a good venue. I write a monthly column about collectibles for which I get paid. Do you prefer being called a poet or a poetess? Do you mind being called a poetess? Keep writing for the soup - I want to read you and I am sure others do too. By the way I am a cancer survivor myself! Peace & Love Matthew Anish

Yes my hubby underwent cancer surgery in November 2015 and whilst he was under the knife I wrote my first poem:-) I guess I prefer to be called a poet but it still amazes me I took to writing as I have never considered myself at all creative and I hated poetry at school!:-) hugs jan xx

Jan, it has been a pleasure and a privilege for me to get in on about 21% of your time here on the Soup. I second Andrea's comments (dropdown), and I only hope that we're both here for my 5th anniversary on the Soup and your 10th, may they be observed in the greatest of good health! ~ No Poop! … LOL. :) gw

Thanks Andrea I can't believe it's over 5 years since I picked up my pen and wrote my first poem 'splendid Isolation' when my hubby was actually having his surgery. A friend saw some of my poems I'd written after that first poem and it took several months before she persuaded me to join soup. I can't believe how far I have come as a total novice and dare I say hater of poetry from my school days!:-) hugs Jan xx
