Muted Echoes The echoes of piano notes play softly in my mournful mind as melody so gently floats like ghosts of songs she left behind. My memories are brought to bear, the echoes of piano notes forever floating in the air, as lumps well up in saddened throats. This winter day we don our coats to lay her body down to rest; the echoes of piano notes show sadness in our hearts expressed. The instrument sits dormant now; its presence quietly emotes her playing, as our thoughts allow the echoes of piano notes. January 28, 2020

This poem brings back many recollections of my childhood. My mother, fortunately still able to tinkle the ivies, plays the piano and I've great memories of the tunes she was always playing.

John, your poem reminds me of my visit to "The Birdcage Saloon" in Tombstone. Visitors can smell the old cigar smoke and hear the upbeat melodies of a piano accompanying dancers and singers. It's a shame pianos fall by the wayside. Bravo on your top win! Congrats, Carolyn
