Muse Fragments
1.
Standing on a high ledge
sky-watching the distance
is a great way to look good in a poem.
Soon the ledge will crumble.
2.
I am the lone survivor of a bad sea poem
automatically I start rowing toward another salty tale.
What else can I do?
Just too many talking fish in my head.
3.
She names only the baby green turtles
that scurry into the open beaks of seabirds.
Those that survive go into the ocean unnamed.
A muse is like that.
4.
Here is a sparrow corpse, catacomb of grubs.
Next to the dead bird is this poem -
spirit riddled by flesh, and blown through
broken lungs. They are the same.
