Munnar's stunning blue carpet

“I just wish the world was twice as big and half of it was still unexplored.” —Quote by David Attenborough --------------------------------------------------------------- Three rivers meet here in ecstasy five thousand feet above sea level guarded by range of mountains and hills where tea, coffee, rose, cardamom breeze stupefies air, mist completes the drink. With bated breath all that breathe just wait for NeelaKurinji, fine blue blooms blooming only once every twelve years Will she survive more such proud seasons?

I can so well relate to what you have described here, as I have been to Munnar over a dozen times. When ever we plan a short trip, we think of Munnar. In summer, it is a pleasure staying in the cool clime of Munnar for a couple of days. The blue carpet is not always visible there. But the green carpet of tea plantations is a heart warming sight. Congratulations, dear friend.

strange are the ways of nature, I am surprised at the fact that it lays dormant for 12 years and keeps count! I had the pleasure of visiting Munnar dear friend. Thank you for your kind visit and words. Do look at the photos recorded here since 1982: https://www.keralatourism.org/neelakurinji/photo-gallery

What a nice place!! The way you describe it is so elegant and light; and though I cannot find a rhyme scheme, this flows well!

You caught my Achilles' heel dear friend! I am not good in rhymes! Rhymes are leash to my thoughts, I let them run wild. But your words sets me to think.. may be I should try. Thank you dear friend for your kind visit. It is a beautiful place, next flowering season is in 2030. there is a site that has recorded photos from 1982, please find time to visit to scroll through them, thank you dear poet. the site is https://www.keralatourism.org/neelakurinji/photo-gallery

Your description of Munnar has me now wanting to visit the region in the Western Ghats mountain range. :) I just had to Google the NeelaKurinji plant: "Strobilanthes kunthiana, known as Kurinji or Neelakurinji in Tamil language and Malayalam and Gurige in Kannada, is a shrub of the bear's breeches family (Acanthaceae)....The purplish blue flower blossoms only once in 12 years, and gave the Nilgiri Mountains range its name as nil (blue) + giri (mountains)" Wow! Cheers - Gary
