A period am I; you do not see me all that much in poems any more. At times I’m placed by poets awkwardly before a line is finished! I implore you, don’t disgrace me. Surely you can use me easily. I’m just a little dot! I end each sentence. How can you abuse me? Try to think of what your teachers taught! Each sentence has a subject and a verb, but sometimes phrases enter in the flow to lengthen sentences, and they might curb you if my friend, the comma, is your foe! Review things! I am not my comma friend. Please put me where each sentence has its end! For the Punctuation Personified Contest of Debbie Guzzi * by the way, seems we can put the period anywhere except in the Soup title heading after abbreviations like Ms.

Hello Andrea... you had me stumped with what 'period' meant at first as we call them 'full stops.' You are truly a great writer of sonnets - Lindsay

As a true "sonneteer" you glow! English teacher eh? How was I to know? I was lousy at following rules and writing properly was my foe.. Great sonnet, contest theme was a bit too confusing for me to dare enter. A7

The English teacher in you arises to the challenge my dear sis. I know how you love to punctuate correctly, so this was a great way to bring in your lessons about the period.

Wow you're making me feel guilty for not using punctuation in my poetry. But gosh what a shock I got when I realised the subject matter. So you guys call the "." a "period"? Down here abouts we call it a "Full Stop". A "period" is a cycle ...well ...you know ...(blush, look down at my feet). Imagine my surprise to see a poem about punctuation!

I am guilty. I usually leave spaces between periods. Love, DAve
