A Sad Wind Blows

Oh cruel fate, you call me to depart, Throw feelings to the wind and fly away, Well knowing the emotions of my heart Are anchored in this home and bid me stay. My life has been a carousel of change A kite which rides each breeze that comes along, And though the thought of constancy is strange, For once I know it's here that I belong. The children I have loved as if my own. Likewise I've grown to value and admire A Father, who such tenderness has shown; Their happiness, his paramount desire. A spoonful of sweet promise won't suffice To soften painful parting's bitter price. 10/01/19 'Movie Magic Poetry Contest' : sponsored by Gregory Barden Film choice and character : Mary Poppins

Wendy, such a remarkable, dare I say, supercalifragilisticexpialadocious sonnet! You have captured that brief moment of sadness in Mary's eyes as she bids adieu in sonnet perfection. I loved the movie references you sprinkle in (kite, spoonful, carousel, and maybe "anchored" for the Sea Captain?) Very special writing, a fave for me.

Bravo Wendy, you write the meter so very well (not many did) and your depiction of the film is warm and memorable--special stuff---I always smile when I read your poems.

Beautifully expressed Wendy. "My life has been a carousel of change A kite which rides each breeze that comes along," A wondrous way of describing Ms. Poppins unique abilities. Very deserving of your top win! Congratulations Wendy! xxoo

That's so kind of you, Connie. I wrote a poem about attempting to fly with the aid of balloons and umbrellas when I was little and this film was probably the trigger!

Thank you,Tom. Not very adventurous but a film which made a big impact on me back in the day especially the poignancy of the Father's regret in neglecting to spend time with his children.
