More Pigeon Holes Than Pigeons

I never would have thought it even remotely possible, Yet it now seems quite plausible, To make a case that is indisputable, There are more pigeon holes than pigeons, And it is all the fault of humans, With no blame attributed to the pigeons. It all started with the invention of labels, And when the pigeons wouldn't budge from their holes, Replica's were made to keep up with the supply of labels. At first things ran smoothly, As governments's moved slowly, With new labels gazetted only twice yearly. One would have thought the citizens' would be glad, Instead they became sad, As a pigeon hole of their very own had to be had. So now there are more pigeon holes than pigeons, Though a shortage of labels is halting the need for even more pigeon holes, As some citizen's feel they deserve the right to several labels.

An astute observation! Terrible to think of the tens of thousands spent through government departments many times over each year, simply to change title of a department or a scheme. Not sure if your poem was related to the new gender diversity syndrome, which is hilarious, growth of options now so rapid!

Thank you for your thoughts on the subject. I often think I was lucky being bought up in an era when we were not so full of our own importance and hobbies were indulged in by most and we could stand our own company and we were taught resilience and there was less attention seeking. I agree about gender diversity. Sadly it is opportunists and attention seekers who are driving it, although I respect the few who are genuine, they are usually more humble people who also give respect back and don't expect more rights than majority. thanks again for comments.
