Monkey Off My Back
With no more monkey
To rid of my back,
Lighter,
Freer,
Flying,
With no more threat of the evil
‘tis easier to last,
when there’s no attack.
Without the call,
Heeded when the siren sings,
Happier,
Gayer,
Younger,
Without a betraying thought,
‘tis easy to turn away
when the last call rings.
And with no more gray
Without fighting to see the light,
Seeing,
Hearing,
Being,
Without hiding my face,
‘tis easy to live again,
when you finally escape the fright
