Monarch Butterflies Therein the chrysalis the pupa bides Camouflaged so as not to be devoured, And metamorphosizes while it hides, Developing into its full splendour. From the depths emerging out of the skin, Is the Monarch Butterfly on the wing. Vibrant tangerine coloured wings that spread, Perimetered in black with small white spots, And black veins and body to accent the set, Gracefully flapping them to stay aloft. Everywhere I turned, I beheld and stared, A kaleidoscope of butterflies in the air. Butterflies symbolize grit, change, hope, and life. I felt I was in the presence of God, Witnessing the resurrection of Christ, And the wondrous miracle of our Lord. These flying insects migrate south solo, To procreate anew in Mexico. As I stood there gazing at their beauty, And breathed deep the tranquility they bring; I am reminded of human cruelty, And disrespect shown for living things. When disheartened, I reminisce better times, Enjoying the swarms of Monarch Butterflies.

Monarchs appear en mass every September where I live, fuel up on pollen, then continue to their destination. I also have written poems on this subject, comparing them to cathedrals and stain glass windows. Thanks for posting it. / M
