For the Glenn Hughes poetry contest by Robert James Liquori

This is a pantoum poem using 46 song titles by Glenn Hughes.  Pantoums do not normally rhyme, but I wanted it to sound more like lyrics.

Pantoum poem

It is composed of a series of four-line stanzas; the second and fourth lines of the first stanza are the first and third lines of the next. This pattern continues for any number of stanzas, except for the final stanza, which differs in the repeating pattern. The first and third lines of the last stanza are the second and fourth of the penultimate (next to last stanza); the first line of the poem is the last line of the final stanza, and the third line of the first stanza is the second of the final. Ideally, the meaning of lines shifts when they are repeated although the words remain exactly the same: this can be done by shifting punctuation, punning, or simply recontextualizing.

When it's all 'gone,' we're 'cryin' for love' and affection. 'Coast to coast' 'this life' is 'the only one' we get to live, yet in your 'imperfection' I saw my 'steady' reflection. Like the 'big sky,' for you I had 'so much love to give.' Coast to coast this life is the only one we get to live. Passionate lips would 'burn' from your 'kiss of fire.' Like the big sky, for you I had so much love to give. I was a 'soul mover' in your 'dark star' desire. Passionate lips would burn from your kiss of fire. We were 'lost in the zone' of our 'secret' place. I was a soul mover in your dark star desire. The 'devil in you' was 'written all over your face. We were lost in the zone of our secret place. I'll never forget that Lilith 'look in your eye.' The devil in you was written all over your face, so 'I lay my body down' for our souls to gratify. I'll never forget that Lilith look in your eye. You were a 'heavy' 'addiction' like 'blue jade' pearls, so I lay my body down for our souls to gratify, as we blended like 'coffee and vanilla' swirls, You were a heavy addiction like blue jade pearls. I forgot 'how long' I had waited in 'isolation.' As we blended like coffee and vanilla swirls, enchanted I would 'surrender' to your narration. I forgot how long I had waited in isolation. 'Inside,' I felt like a 'justified man,' lighter than a kite. Enchanted I would surrender to your narration. I knew 'when I fall,' nothing could 'save me tonight.' Inside, I felt like a justified man, lighter than a kite. Until, 'in your eyes' I saw 'Medusa's' snake locks stare. I knew when I fall, nothing could save me tonight. I had to 'face the truth,' as you were suffocating my air. Until, in your eyes I saw Medusa's snake locks stare. I saw you 'change,' yelling like a 'miss little insane.' I had to face the truth, as you were suffocating my air. I pleaded 'don't let me bleed,' but you were so inhumane. I saw you change, yelling like a miss little insane. You're a 'heartbreaker', but 'still the night' made me 'crave.' I pleaded don't let me bleed, but you were so inhumane. I insisted 'why don't you stay,'  but I was just your slave. You're a heartbreaker, but still the night made me crave. Fate showed no mercy, so now I'm 'pickin up the pieces.' I insisted why don't you stay, but I was just your slave. Now I 'can't stop the flood,' as torn sorrow releases. Fate showed no mercy, now I'm picking up the pieces. You 'keep on moving' ignorant it's the 'death of me.' Now I can't stop the flood, as torn sorrow releases. 'Beyond the numb' who will 'make my day' angst free. You keep on moving ignorant it's the death of me, yet in your imperfection I saw my steady reflection. Beyond the numb who will make my day angst free. When it's all gone, we're crying for love and affection, Titles used: cryin' for love the only one coast to coast big sky this life imperfection so much love to give kiss of fire burn soul mover dark star lost in the zone secret written all over your face Devil in you the look in your eye lay my body down coffee and vanilla heavy addiction blue jade isolation surrender how long when i fall save me tonight inside justified man Medusa In your eyes face the truth change miss little insane don't let me bleed heartbreaker still the night crave why don't you stay can't stop the flood pickin up the pieces death of me keep on moving make my day beyond the numb steady gone

Pure genius! The matter with my sis not so easy and not something to explain here. But thank you for resonating with my feelings. Enough about that, your a poet amongst poets, looking forward to reading more from you. I haven not been on in a long while and opened a new account for a fresh start and finding talents such as yours has turned reading into a favorite past time once again.

Sometimes love is like sweets, candy ice cream, and even hotdogs. It's not good for our health but we still crave it even if it would be the death of us. I love a bit of unhealthy love, toxicity and obsession. Works best if it goes both ways. This is such a lovely piece, I flowed through every word and line and could feel the depth of your writing. You have such an astounding way of crafting words Dear Silent and I'm stoned every time. "yet in your imperfection, I saw my steady reflection."

Song titles used to write this intense poem which needs time, effort and pure talent, all three aspects always evident in your poetry my friend. 'as we blended like coffee and vanilla swirls' ......to heartbreaking scenes, and then to your last stanza 'You keep on moving ignorant its the death of me'. This Medusa like inhumane person, how sad that the night still made you crave her, yet in her imperfection you see your reflection. A powerful winning trophy poem Silent One Congratulations. Blessings, Jennifer.

Dear S. O.This form and the song titles repeating were the perfect formula for the subject of obsessive love, This must have been a Marathon write. You really nailed it and seems a sure winner. Hugs, SuZ

Wow you used LOTS of titles in this ambitious pantoum. I recall a few times over the years when we were asked to use song titles in a poem. I think one I did was Taylor Swift titled. Well done. S.O Also a clever take on the contest!

I must admit I've never heard of Glen Huges, but you've done well here with the song titles, and there are many. Great Pantoum, and sure to do well in the contest, however good luck S1 Hugs

Dear Silent One, your poetic journey through Glenn Hughes’ song titles is a musical journey of emotions. I love the passion, longing, and vulnerability—like a melody that lingers—is pure magic. - Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

Dear silent one what a brilliant pantoum this is so well crafted with so many glenn hughes titles and you somehow made them all go so well together! Very clever and creative of you! I love how you mentioned lilith to fit in medusa title! That was impressive and also how you’ve expressed emotions while at it, making your rhymes catchy and standout , soulfully moving and very powerful poem this is! One of the best glenn hughes poems iv read in ages and i am sure will score high too!i especially loved the lines “ Until, in your eyes I saw Medusa's snake locks stare. I saw you 'change,' yelling like a 'miss little insane.' I had to face the truth, as you were suffocating my air. “ how descriptive! And poetic! Perfect take! Best wishes!

so I lay my body down for our souls to gratify, as we blended like 'coffee and vanilla' swirls… I knew 'when I fall,' nothing could 'save me tonight… I saw you 'change,' yelling like a 'miss little insane…Silent, you weaved together some haunting lyrics, heartfelt, heartsick. The protagonist knows this one is not good for him, but he is enslaved to the torture she brings. Great selection of songs.

"Until, in your eyes I saw Medusa's snake locks stare. I saw you 'change,' yelling like a 'miss little insane.' I had to face the truth, as you were suffocating my air. I pleaded 'don't let me bleed,' but you were so inhumane." -- Wow. I once came upon Medusa, in an old dilapidated mansion of meditation. Spoke with medusa. Quite and experience. "yet in your imperfection I saw my steady reflection." Painful to admit, but others often show us, what is wrong in ourselves. Great read.
