Misjudged - For a Long Ago Friend

our junior high dance
middle class white kids rock out
to Born to be Wild

girls sitting pretty
standing and doing nothing . . .
the wall flower guys

the music softens
I only Have Eyes for You
enhances my angst

the boy I adore
rooted with the wall flowers
has started to move

crossing the gym floor
the boy I like is asking
the new girl to dance

she looks like a snob
I hate this beautiful girl
immediately

somehow I end up
walking home with this new girl
serendipity

laughing and chatting
we have so much in common
fast friends we become

Interesting haiku sequence,Andrea! Glad to visit you again, have been sick and struggling withcomputer problems! Btw, 21 degrees of Leo born, moon in gemini, sagittitarius rising and all the personal planets in virgo! That's why do not seem very leonine.

Ah, yes, this brings me back to junior high days! The emotions, the angst, the peer pressure. So glad you ended up being friends with that beautiful girl...shows your strength of character, even at that young age :) Great poem!

You never really know someone until you know them... I became friends with a girl who used to be mean to me in school... I like the simplicity of this poem and the twist to the ending. Very nicely done, Andrea!... Thanks so much for your kind comments :)

Emotions run so high when we are in our teens. You never know what someone is like until you get to know them. Glad you made friends with her. I was that new girl and my best friend got mad at me because her new guy asked me to dance. Wooh the troubles that a guy can cause between friends! I really enjoyed your poem and returning briefly to my youth. 7

Sad aint it. In junior high I was very fat - a wall flower. This girl named Donna was also fat. We were both wall flowers. I really do believe we both thought we were too good looking to settle for dancing with each other. Aaaarrrrgggghhhhh! Aint kids nuts. Love, daver

Andrea, I remember those school dances with everyone afraid to make a move and high school where friends are made and lost in a moment , a dancing 7 and thanks for visiting my senryu 13, animal abuse, and you are so right it is not just the animals, but children and women and even men who suffer abuse

I just love a happy ending, and I know that sometimes girls and parties don't mix. Great little string of Senryu, Andrea. Viv x
