Mindset

I grew up middle class, so I Was far from being poor And maybe that is why I never Yearned for having more. That mindset is the reason I can blame or I can thank For how I spend, no matter How much I have in the bank. An upscale store or restaurant Just makes me feel uptight. I’d rather spend much less On every item, every bite. Our habits may be set for life Though circumstances change, Which some may understand And many others might find strange.

i couldn't agree more. in addition to being middle class, many of us had parents who grew up during the great depression and ww2 which enforced a frugality that they never grew out of.

I really like this one. We were a little poor but never wanted for much once my mom remarried and this is my same mindset too.

A roof over our heads, a bed and enough food to survive is all we need. Tom

Ah, you've hit the nail on the head, Ilene. And, it also seems that the way we were raised still affects how we think about things. I grew up poor, so I'm very careful with my spending. I never want to find myself encumbered by debt and obligations I can't meet. I prefer the simple stores and the simple restaurants!

A fastfood burger costs $7 in Hawai'i, but a London Broil steak can be purchased for less from the butcher, placing the value on time rather than quality, but habits do make a difference! Aloha!
