Mind Bender

Mind Bender

I try to bend my mind around a straight line.
Pondering the lies imbedded in yesterdays truths.
False prophets, masquerading on wisdoms mountain.
"come taste our wares"
I become intoxicated on prides pie.
Tasting success's extinction.
Lives forsaken,
sacrificed on altars of progress.
Beads of glass breaking in upturned palms
whispers from the fallen,
not allowed to cry out.
The language of their ancestors,
silenced,
erased.
What's left?
Is there any trace?

Oil drips along insanities highway.
Multitudes traveling gleefully in the passing lane,
destination... nowhere fast.
munching on fastfood promises
Heading towards a toothpick bridge,
trusting facades of solidity.
Smiling plastic smiles.
Turning the radio dial,
tuned to stations extolling self pride.
God complex.
"All things are possible if I believe in me!"
Living the dream,
suspended within stupidity.
Unable to bend twisted minds.
Failing to seek the straight and narrow path.
The end of us,
no muss, no fuss.
Time stands still.
Momentary pause.
The earth waits,
catches it's breath.
Abrahams Father,
presses restart...

Beautiful, Richard. We're raping Mother Earth in the name of "progress". Of a dispossessed background myself, I like your "whispers from the fallen not allowed to cry out" analogy. Our minds are indeed bent and twisted by economics and so-called progress. We're advancing backwards at a hectic pace. Well done, Richard. You're on a roll, my friend. Betterer and betterer each and every day. Licia :-)

You are kind Licia, I am so glad you appreciated this one. It speaks to me as well, I wrote it self and I was powerless but to follow it's rhythm. In fact it called me back two times.

A true mindbender of a poem about a world gone insane, Richard...I remember the term 'culture shock' and I still got it!...A little over a century ago people still traveled by horse and buggy...Now technology has accelerated at a maddening and frightening pace...Line # 9 of the first verse blows (bends) my mind - Tim

Historicly we are told Manhattan was purchased for a hand full of beads. When the Ice caps melt it may end up being a better deal than the natives realized. It seems we humans worship at the alter of science and have systematicly destroyed our planet with all our advances, What we see as wise God counts as foolishness, Thanks for commenting Tim, i appreciate your thoughts.
