Author’s Notes: “Meretricious Spirit” is a Didactic write I completed on October 11, 2016. I consider this one to be a rather straight-forward narrative. It both says what it means and means what it says. This particular theme was one that had been in the back of my mind for a while. I believe that most of us, if not all of us, have been in certain meretricious-like situations with other people, when some them are less-than-authentic and present themselves, at times, in accordance with certain negative attitudes or behaviors reflected by: pretense, deception, vulgarity, insincerity, unfounded bias, childishness, and superficiality – to name a few. And there are certainly others that could be added to this list as well. I believe my teaching point here with this Didactic is principally captured by the following three verses (Verses 13-15) in this poem: “Always follow your life’s passion and / the spiritual heart and tenor of your soul / for they shall be your true moral compass.” At least, this is my take, when I ponder some of the rather unique situations and circumstances we can all find ourselves in from time-to-time with other people when we’re confronted, unfortunately, by some of these less-than-savory aspects of human nature and behavior. Something to think about! (Gary Bateman – October 22, 2016) (Didactic)
